\nFASHION is folklore\u2014a way of life.
\nAgriCULTURE is how we live.<\/p>\n

When spring comes to Nagano, the neat rows of young rice seedlings in our paddies end up broken.
\nSika, Japanese deer coming down from the mountains eat them.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Ezo sika devour crops with frightening appetite.
\nThe meat of culled Ezo sika becomes gibier, and their hides become leather.
\nI take that leather, develop it from the structure of traditional Hyakusho’s workwear, and create \u201cNORAGI\u201d clothing that lets us enjoy AgriCULTURE.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I serve as a dancer of SHISHIMAI, the lion dance at our village\u2019s offering festival.
\nThe female OSHISHI I perform is a being that celebrates the harvest and drives away evil.
\nHer dignified, battling figure is a kind of salvation for Hyakusho.
\nWishing to embody that same strength, I expressed my NORAGI together with the sacred OSHISHI.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Sika themselves are not evil.
\nWhat is evil is failing to consider how we might live with the sika.
\nThat is the evil I wanted to dispel.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Hyakusho is AgriCULTURE.
\nHyakusho honor what dwells like a soul and live alongside it.
\nIn the not-so-distant future, FASHION will become Hyakusho.<\/p>\n

\nWhen he spoke the word “HYAKUSHO”(Japanese peasant) in his lifetime, it carried the weight of those who, though tossed by the hardships of their lives, cherished people, nurtured life, and stood resilient with quiet pride and unshakable conviction.<\/p>\n
\nAgriculture has long been overlooked, despite being the foundation of our existence. Without it, we cannot live.
\nAgriculture was once our way of life\u2014our thread of connection.
\nAgriculture is more beautiful, more resilient, and more interesting than you imagine.<\/p>\n
\nIt transcends mere sustenance\u2014it is a form of design: not just “fashion design” in the sense of garment, but the design of how we live as human beings.<\/p>\n
\nI believe that when new garments for farming is born, it will give rise to new ways of farming, and with it, new ways of being human.
\nAs peasants once did, I create with my body. That is the best contribution I can make, as a peasant living in the present.<\/p>\n
