Echizen washi quietly shifts its form over time. <\/p>\n This transformation is not a flaw but a subtle trace of the time the material has held.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n I grew up in Fukui, surrounded by washi from an early age. <\/p>\n Washi does not disappear when it breaks; it simply changes its state and continues to exist.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n That way of being resonates with the bodily consciousness I cultivated through rhythmic gymnastics and ballet\u2014 <\/p>\n As the body moves, the garment sways, and that sway, in turn, reflects the body back to itself. <\/p>\n As my practice deepened, I learned that Echizen is a place where Kawakami Gozen\u2014 <\/p>\n Its continuity is, to me, an accumulation of time carried forward through the act of making. <\/p>\n \u201cSUKU\u201d does not deny breaking; <\/p>\n I wish to present clothing as something that is handed over, carried on, <\/p>\n \u3000\u3000Material: Echizen Washi, konjac glue<\/em><\/p>\n \u3000\u3000Supported by: RYOZO paper mill\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n \u3000\u3000Photography by YASUNARI KIKUMA \/ \u00a9\ufe0e FASHION FRONTIER PROGRAM\u00a0<\/em><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]
\nWhen touched, it softens and grows fragile; immersed in water, it dissolves back into fibers and can be pulled into life once again.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\nI remember returning torn paper to water and reshaping it into something new\u2014
\na childhood experience that quietly engraved in me the sense of \u201creturning, changing, and being born again.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\nthe feeling of the boundary between body and clothing loosening.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\nWashi receives these minute shifts and holds them as quiet layers.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\nthe deity said to have brought paper into the world\u2014is enshrined,
\nand where papermaking has continued for over a thousand years, constantly adapting in form.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\nit is a garment that embraces transformation as it is.
\nRather than fixing a single point of completion, it continues to change with the wearer\u2019s time,
\nand those changes become memories that belong only to that person.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
\nand lives together with the passage of time.
\nLike washi itself, garments, too, are things that continue.<\/span><\/p>\n
