This work, “”370°,”” was created by MAISUZKI, an artist who explores the traditional Japanese aesthetic of “”iki.””She interprets “”iki”” as “”a playful spirit that tries to enjoy life in any situation,”” and thinks of it as the spirit of trying to find new perspectives and enjoy them no matter how difficult the situation, as if finding a new 10 degrees in a world that we thought had only 360 degrees.

To express this idea, MAISUZKI expanded the traditional technique of “”Kumiko,”” which creates patterns by combining pieces of wood without using nails, and used the one and only “”3D Kumiko technique.”” By using different colors on the surface of each piece, she created a wearable art piece that looks different depending on the angle. When people wear this piece, the aim is to create new perspectives through the chance visual changes that occur between people and objects, and between people.

If we can discover new perspectives on things and people, surely the fun of life can expand beyond 360 degrees? This is the idea that is embodied in this work.
